'The Traveler' is a photography series that started with the launch of KERN1 in 2018. The idea was simple: to see how differently the same Chanel jacket could be interpreted through someone else’s eyes. The first stop for the 2026 edition of The Traveler was A Day in Khaki, a guesthouse in Kyoto set in a beautifully restored 120-year-old machiya, once an embroidery factory.

Edit 04 is a small study in texture. Two Chanel jackets, one houndstooth, one checked tweed, brought together in dialogue. A reflection on the house’s lasting interest in pattern and contrast.

For edit 03, Chanel jackets are placed within interiors and objects designed by French mid-century architect and designer Charlotte Perriand. Perriand approached design as inseparable from life, shaping environments around movement, function, and the realities of daily living. A similar logic underpins the work of Coco Chanel. For both design is a framework for living, a structure that supports the person within it.

For Edit 01, four Chanel jackets from the 1990s were selected, each paired with a design chair, and photographed inside the Depot of Histoire Vintage in the Netherlands.
